Art & Aesthetics

Understanding the beauty of art is something someone needs to understand before they can really appreciate art.
History of art needs to be known so that one can understand pieces from that time period.
Art is an interpretation of how we view the world. Art is something that can show how someone view something and how a different person views that same thing differently.
The human brain recognizes faces with minimal details and prefers to look at faces over other patterns.
Artist distort and create images so that they are more pleasing to the human eye.

I believe that Francis Hutcheson had the most important theory on aesthetics. Hutcheson's inquiry concerning beauty, hormony, and design, during the Age of Enlightenment, was the first philosophical treatment of aesthetics.
Changeux and Ramachandran's scientific view of aesthetics and art were both very intriguing. Something I found very interesting from Changeux's lecture was the view he had on art and Homo Sapians. Comparing people to art is a great way to explain art. I thought it was accurate when he spoke about how artifacts are works of art and how he was explain the human body parts and how they are viewed as art.
I found Ramachandran's lecture to be very interesting. The part that intrigued me was how works of art have an effect on the human brain. His eight laws of art were all very accurate. Such as art as metaphor and symmetry. He went through and explain each of the high laws. I believe that both of these speakers were very accurate on the way art is viewed and each made their point about scientific view of art and aesthetics.
The videos and articles were similar in many ways. Both the texts and videos talk about the history of art and how art is viewed by different people and cultures. The videos and article both into greta detail explaining the different viewpoints. The text mainly explains view points of artists on their artwork and how the human mind sees art. The videos mainly focus on the famous philosophers viewpoints and also both of the speakers viewpoints on art and how it relates to science.
The films and articles gave me more of an idea about how we as humans view art. The films and article went into greater detail so I was able to understand the content and viewpoints well.
