Video Review
Islam Video Review:
The Islamic view Abraham as their father figure. They pray to Mecca several times a day and have prayer rooms. The are educated about their faith and gather together in buildings called Mosques, almost like Christian's church. Islamic architects created semi-domes and then added Islamic decorations, which included things like medallions and minarets. There are several Mosques that are famous in the Islamic community, such as the Blue Mosque, the Sheikh Lotfollah, Shah Jahan Mosque and others. The Taj Mahal is the burial place of the Mughal Emperor and his wife. There is a reflecting pool and an extensive garden. The video goes into depth on the art in the buildings and the art of the Islamic community. The Islamic community is beautiful, I chose to watch the Islamic video due to the fact that many of my friends are Islamic.
Buddhism Video Review:
Buddhism derived from Buddha who died in 400 BCE. Ashoka Maurya, who was an emperor contributed to the first large-scale stone art in India to represent Buddhism and This emperor also contributed to reestablishing Buddhism. Buddhist meditate in Monasteries. Buddhist are all about peace and stress the importance of meditation. Monasteries are a calm peaceful place that contain peaceful art and such. They also have caves with temples and art throughout. The video explains each of the caves that are well known in the Buddhist community and the art of all of them. I choose Buddhism because I always thought meditation was a good way to relax and become stress free.
Both of the films gave me a deeper understanding of each of the religions. This explains the art of each of their religions and how they tie to the lecture.
