Futurism: The Art/Life Revolution:
I have always loved Italy, so Iw anted to learn about the impact futurism had on the art in Italy. After an automobile accident in Milanese, a poet Filippo Marinetti experienced a form of artistic catharsis. He avoided social norms and decided to do his own thing. Him and his friends became associated with violence, misogyny, and fascism. This resulted in the vibrant tapestry of the 20th century art due to futurism. It was amazing to understand where this art came from. This related to the reading due to the fact that it had a lot deeper meaning than just what meets the eye.
Abstract Expressionism and Pop: Art of the '50s and '60s:
I chose this because I always found abstract art to be more appealing to the eye. Abstract Expressionism is a for of art that was created by combining American and European art. This type of art was later rejected because it was viewed as Pop Art. The video shows Franz Kline’s C & O (1958), from the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC. This piece is very dark and doesn’t have much colors other than a splash of red and yellow, with a tad bit of dark blue. The video also showed Helen Frankenthaler’s Mountains and Sea (1952), from the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, this piece is the opposite and is a very bright piece of abstract art. The video related to the reading because it explains how the Pop Art of the 50’s and 60’s came to be. The video gave me more of an understanding as to why Pop Art has more of a meaning.
